What They Say

During my time as a participant at FIP, I gained invaluable practical knowledge and the confidence to handle everyday challenges. This training equipped me with hands-on skills that I am eager to apply on any role. Beyond technical abilities, the project instilled in me a high level of discipline and a collaborative spirit. These personal and professional growth milestones have prepared me to be a self-sufficient and dedicated member of any team I may work with.

Before YouthBuild SA, I struggled to make ends meet while working part-time in Germiston. Through the program, I gained the confidence, life skills, and sense of purpose I needed to move forward. Today, I am proud to work as a Lab Analyst at Saint-Gobain Gyproc. I am also pursuing my goal of becoming a millwright by continuing my studies in mechanical engineering.

Thank you for the opportunity to join the construction skills training program. The hands-on experience was invaluable and significantly boosted my confidence and sense of accomplishment. I am a team leader based in KwaZulu-Natal, and I’ve always believed that my success is tied to the success of those around me. During my NYS social enterprise training, I had the opportunity to lead a food initiative that provided 88 loaves of bread to schools and daycare centres in our most vulnerable areas. Seeing the difference this made—reducing hunger and giving local organisations some financial breathing room—has inspired me to do more. I am now focused on building a sustainable social enterprise that offers affordable products and training, ensuring that everyone in my community has the chance to thrive.

I served as a Grade 7 Assistant at Masakhane Combined School during Phase 3 of the National Youth Service. In this role, I maintained classroom order and mentored learners in leadership and problem-solving. This program provided me with financial stability, the ability to support diverse learning needs, and the confidence to lead professional groups. I am proud to have contributed to both the environmental team and my local community’s growth through this initiative.

Before joining the National Youth Service (NYS), I faced unemployment and financial hardships that threatened my ability to continue my studies. The programme provided me with the stability, practical training, and hands-on experience I needed. While volunteering at Soul City Educare Centre, I was able to make a meaningful impact on young children and their families. This experience has been vital in helping me build the skills required to achieve my goal of becoming a qualified Early Childhood Development teacher.
