Skills Gap Year

Impacting lives, Building communities

Skills Gap Year Programme

The Skills Gap Year Programme is a one-year, holistic youth development initiative designed to support young people who are not in education, employment, or training. The programme provides a structured pathway for youth to gain life skills, technical skills, work experience, and career readiness while building their confidence and sense of purpose.

Many young people leave school without the practical skills or exposure needed to succeed in the labour market. Others face barriers such as poverty, limited networks, or lack of guidance. The Skills Gap Year Programme bridges this divide by creating a supportive learning environment where youth can explore career options, strengthen their abilities, and prepare for long-term success.

Over the course of twelve months, participants engage in personal development, leadership training, and technical/vocational learning aligned with industry needs. They also benefit from mentorship, workplace readiness training, and hands-on internships or community projects that give them real-world experience. By the end of the programme, young people are better equipped to transition into employment, further education, or entrepreneurship.

The programme not only transforms young people individually but also strengthens communities by reducing unemployment, improving social outcomes, and building a more skilled, motivated generation of youth who can contribute positively to South Africa’s development.
